about

5 voices melt together and become one single organism. Repetitive melodic motives interweave and from each variation a chain of reactions and variations develop. Simple, meditative and airy harmonies unfold, separate and condensate. Sometimes highly energetic and strict rhythmic passages appear, sometimes intense melodic lines form the music, or the music might float into a dense swamp of abstract textures.

“Sidechains” consist of some of the strongest improvisers and saxophonists from the younger generation of the Danish experimental music scene, and in this ensemble they play scores with elements of improvisation. The soundscapes are therefore warm, dusty and fluctuating, and create a dynamic, intense and physical experience. Every musician in the ensemble is known from other bands and projects, such as; Girls in Airports, Svin, Ocean Fanfare, Køs and Maria Faust Sacrum Facere a.o.

“Sidechains” was formed in 2019 in relation to the performance of Sven Meinild’s work ‘Sidechains’ and Jacob Ridderberg’s work ‘Rituals’, as a contribution to the release of the ‘Rituals’ album. “Sidechains” work with various composers, from the ensemble, and from elsewhere.
